# Numbers Protocol Documentation > Numbers Protocol is the Decentralized Provenance Standard for digital media. It uses blockchain technology and cryptographic identifiers (Numbers ID / Nid) to create immutable birth records of digital content, track ownership and changes, and ensure authenticity. The Numbers Mainnet is built on Avalanche Subnet technology.
